On Wednesday, February 28 2024, the Mathematics Student Association (Himatics) of the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences (FMIPA) Tanjungpura University (UNTAN) held a Mathematics Talkshow with the theme "Introduction to the Mathematics Study Program and Training in Mathematical Scientific Writing" which was carried out online. virtual via zoom meeting. Himatika presents speakers who are competent in their fields, namely Dr. Bayu Prihandono, S.Sc., M.Sc., as Head of the Mathematics Study Program (PS) FMIPA UNTAN and Ady Febrisutisyanto, S.Mat., M.Aktr. who is an alumni of PS Mathematics FMIPA UNTAN. Apart from that, the resource person for the Scientific Writing Training activity was Aviva Salsabila who is a Mathematics Study Program student.
This event was attended by high school students, university students, lecturers and alumni from PS Mathematics. The aim of holding this event is to increase insight into the world of mathematics and written work that can be developed as stated by the chairman of Himatika, Rega Arya Kentana in his speech.
The event went quite well, where at the beginning of the opening of this event all participants in the zoom meeting sang the song Indonesia Raya solemnly. The event then continued with the provision of material by Dr. Bayu Prihandono, S.Si., M.Sc., as Chair of Mathematics Study Program, FMIPA UNTAN. In the introduction to PS Mathematics, apart from explaining the vision and mission of the study program, information was also provided about the job profiles that can be carried out by PS Mathematics graduates, the qualifications of highly competent lecturers, as well as the facilities and infrastructure if studying at PS Mathematics FMIPA UNTAN. Several studies are also presented briefly and the importance of scientific writing in the development of mathematics.
This event was very interactive seeing the many questions from the participants to the resource person. These questions cover various topics ranging from job prospects for Mathematics PS graduates to research strategies for writing quality scientific papers.
As a resource person, Ady Febrisutisyanto, S.mat., M.Aktr, Mathematics alumni, Ady said that there are two job opportunities for Mathematics PS graduates, namely becoming academics or practitioners. Apart from that, he also explained the important role of alumni in providing motivation and guidance for students in developing scientific papers. The resource person for scientific papers, Avifa Salsabila, Mathematics Study Program student, also shared experiences and tips in writing scientific papers. He underlined the importance of systematic research methodology and in-depth analysis in a scientific work.
With high enthusiasm from the participants and valuable contributions from the speakers, this talk show succeeded in providing a deeper understanding of the Mathematics study program and providing practical guidance in writing scientific papers. Hopefully this event can be a good first step for Mathematics students in developing themselves in the academic and professional world. The discussions held at this event also opened up space for participants to ask questions and discuss various aspects related to the Mathematics study program and scientific papers. The enthusiasm of the participants in actively participating made this event memorable and beneficial for all those present.
Thus, the talk show "Introduction to the Mathematics Study Program and Scientific Writing Training" was successfully held and is expected to be able to provide inspiration and motivation for Mathematics Study Program FMIPA Tanjungpura University students to develop themselves in the field of research and scientific writing.
