The Mathematics Study Program Presents a Studium Generale on Optimization and Its Role in Big Society 5.0.
"Optimization is not about doing more, but about doing the best with what we have," said the second speaker, Meliana Pasaribu, M.Sc., in the opening of her public lecture. In the era of digitalization, optimization has become a key focus in various fields of life, especially in achieving smart cities in Indonesia. Additionally, optimization plays an effective role in decision-making processes. The Mathematics Study Program, aiming to produce students who can adapt to the challenges and opportunities in the digital era, proudly presented a Public Lecture with the theme "Optimization and Its Role in Big Society 5.0: Navigating Challenges and Opportunities in the Digital Era," held on August 28, 2024, from 13:00 to 15:00 WIB. The lecture was conducted in a hybrid format, with offline participants attending at Conference Building Theater 2 and online participants joining via Zoom Meeting. Approximately 200 participants from various universities attended this Studium Generale.
The first speaker, Eko Sulistyono, M.Sc. (a mathematics lecturer from Batam Institute of Technology), delivered his material online, introducing the Vehicle Routing Problem. The first speaker explained, "The Vehicle Routing Problem is about determining the optimal route for a group of vehicles that must visit several locations (customers) from one or more depots." After the first speaker's presentation, the second speaker, Meliana Pasaribu, M.Sc. (a mathematics lecturer from Tanjungpura University), discussed "Optimization of Waiting Time at Intersections." The participants' enthusiasm sparked several questions for the speakers. Among the many questioners, Viel Alfarez and Frizt Ivanovich Sinaga were the best. The public lecture ran smoothly and concluded with participants filling out evaluation forms, which will be used as feedback for future public lectures.
