Proud! Untan Fmipa Mathematics Study Program Students Successfully Held Komet 20 Throughout West Kalimantan

PONTIANAK,  The Mathematics Study Program of the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences (FMIPA) Tanjungpura University Pontianak (UNTAN) successfully held the Peak Competition Event called the 20th Mathematics Competition (KOMET) in West Kalimantan Province for SMA/SMK/MA equivalent students and students throughout Indonesia on Saturday (2/3/24). This competition was entrusted to UNTAN Mathematics Students, especially the Mathematics Student Association (HIMATIKA UNTAN) which was held in the Auditorium Building, Tanjungpura University, Pontianak (UNTAN).

KOMET or the acronym for Mathematics Competition is an Annual Grand Agenda of the Tanjungpura University Mathematics Student Association (HIMATIKA). This year is the 20th year that this Grand Agenda has been implemented. Several branches of the 20th Mathematics Competition Competition (KOMET) include Olympiads, Written Work and Teaching Aids.

Chairman of the KOMET 20 Committee, Farnawi Sya'Bandi, explained that the West Kalimantan Competition activities he led ran smoothly. "Alhamdulillah, this year's competition was successfully attended by SMA/SMK/MA students representing the best schools from each region in West Kalimantan and fellow students representing universities throughout Indonesia. Thank you to the entire committee who have given their energy, time and hard work from start to finish. And also thank you to the parties who cannot be mentioned one by one for helping and supporting this activity. he explained.

“Thank you also to all participants who have struggled from start to finish.  You are the Nation's Next Generation. Keep practicing continuously, according to the proverb, you can do it because you are used to it. Always be the best and never give up," he continued.

Dean of FMIPA UNTAN, Dr. Gusrizal, S.Si., M.Si. revealed that "With the success of this activity, it is hoped that high school students who will continue to the next level of education can make FMIPA UNTAN one of the faculties chosen for the future. "Participating in competitions shows that we are honing ourselves to face a glorious future because experience is very important and all of that is called a process," he said.

The Comet Olympics itself has two stages, the first is Regional Selection. In the Regional Selection, Comet was carried out in each of the 14 districts/cities in West Kalimantan including, City: Pontianak & Singkawang, then Districts: Sintang, Sambas, Kubu Raya, Melawi, Ketapang, Sanggau, Mempawah, Sekadau, Bengkayang, Landak, Kapuas Hulu & North Kayong. In this Regional Selection, the Top 10 in each region were selected on Saturday (20/01/24). Then proceed to carry out the Peak Stage Selection which will be held on Saturday (02/03/24). This year there are 515 participants taking part in the Comet Olympics in West Kalimantan. Then those who took part in the Peak Stage numbered 109 out of 140 participants.

Head of the FMIPA UNTAN Mathematics Study Program, Dr. Bayu Prihandono, S.Sc., M.Sc. also said that "With the success of this year's KOMET Agenda, hopefully it will be possible for high school students of the same level to consider the FMIPA UNTAN Mathematics Study Program as one of the options they want to pursue in the future. "I am proud of the students who have participated in this competition until the end because it shows the great potential they have in mathematics," he said.

Participants who entered the top five at the top stage this year competed fiercely to win the championship in front of a jury consisting of three lecturers from the FMIPA UNTAN Mathematics Study Program, namely Fransiskus Fran, S.Si., M.Si., Yudhi, S.Si. , M.Si., and Meliana Pasaribu, S.Pd., M.Sc. The top five winners in the 20th Mathematics Competition Olympiad (KOMET) were Janssen Edyth Lim from Immanuel Bilingual Christian High School, Pontianak City, 2nd place was achieved by Abraham Bagunna Adiwijaya from Ngabang 1 Public High School, 3rd place was won by Sanchia Vania Trixie from Immanuel Bilingual Christian High School, Pontianak City. Meanwhile, Hope 1 was won by Muhammad Adib Muzakky from MA Negeri Singkawang City and Hope 2 was won by Zayyan Nahrul Ilmi from MA Negeri 2 Pontianak City.
